Pastor Jonny Rashid

Jonny Rashid


Jonny Rashid is father to Elaine and Agatha. He lives on Lenape land, colonized as Philadelphia, in the Riverwards. He moved to Philadelphia from Lebanon, PA, where his parents emigrated from Egypt.

He is an abolitionist and a housing activist. He is an avid home cook and a perpetually disappointed Philadelphia sports fan. He is the author of “Jesus Takes A Side.”

He studied journalism, education, and history at Temple University and completed his Master of Divinity at Palmer Theological Seminary. He’s a member of the steering committee for the Philadelphia Coalition of Affordable housing, serves on the advisory committee for the Anabaptist at 500 project and is a former pastor of Circle of Hope.

Office Manager

Heather is from Philadelphia, born on Lenape land, as the granddaughter of both sharecroppers and descendants of participants in the American Revolution. She is a curator and an artist working in clay and fiber arts. She studied at Florida A&M University, built on a former plantation and home of the Apalachee for undergrad. She completed her Masters at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, located on the traditional unceded homelands of the Council of the Three Fires: the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi Nations. Heather previously worked as an post -grad apprentice and teaching artist at the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia. She was an artist in residence in The Okanagan Valley, Canada and at the J.R. Hodges Tin Shop in Breckenridge, Colorado. Her work can be seen in local and international collections. She lives with her spouse, three children, cats, frogs and quail in Mt. Airy.

The elders and the pastor work together as the pastoral team, guiding congregational spiritual life, clarifying vision and mission and seeking to discern God’s will for the congregation.

Human Resources Committee (HRC)

The HRC oversees the work of the pastor(s) and hires and oversees all staff and is also responsible for filling all lay leadership roles in the church.

The deacons oversee the stewardship of resources and are responsible for the financial stability of WPMF. They shape our budget and oversee our finances, look after legal affairs, manage facilities and respond to mutual aid requests.

Church Council

The church council is the administrative and decision-making body of the congregation and is accountable to the congregation. It is composed of the Pastor, Elders, Deacons and the Human Resources Committee. Council welcomes feedback from the congregation on all matters.
